Warner Bros. has delayed the release of The Batman: Part II once again, moving the highly anticipated sequel from Oct. 1, 2027, to Feb. 18, 2028. The latest shift marks another postponement for director Matt Reeves’ follow-up to the 2022 blockbuster, which was originally slated for release in 2025 before production timelines were disrupted by the 2023 Hollywood labor strikes and subsequent scheduling changes. The studio announced the new date alongside the release of the film’s first camera-test footage, offering fans an early look at Robert Pattinson reprising his role as Gotham’s Dark Knight.

The brief teaser shows Pattinson in costume during a rain-soaked camera test, highlighting subtle updates to the Batsuit, including a redesigned cowl. While Warner Bros. has not disclosed story details, the sequel is expected to continue the grounded crime saga established in The Batman, with HBO’s The Penguin series serving as a narrative bridge between the two projects. Returning cast members include Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, while new additions are expected to include Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Charles Dance, Sebastian Koch and Brian Tyree Henry.

The revised schedule means audiences will wait nearly six years between installments. Industry reports indicate the delay will allow Reeves additional time to complete the film’s extensive visual effects and post-production work. Warner Bros. also reshuffled its theatrical calendar, with J.J. Abrams’ mystery project The Great Beyond taking over the October 2027 release slot previously occupied by The Batman: Part II.

Despite the extended wait, the first footage reassured fans that production is progressing as Reeves continues developing his standalone Batman universe outside the core DC Studios continuity. Although plot specifics remain closely guarded, the sequel is expected to further expand the filmmaker’s darker interpretation of Gotham while building on events introduced in the original film and its television spinoff.
