In a message posted on Hilton’s website, his family and team thanked supporters for their concern and confirmed that he is under medical care. “Many of you have reached out with concern for Perez, and we are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of love, support, and prayers.” The statement added, “We can confirm that Perez is receiving medical care, and our family’s focus right now is on his well-being.” It continued by asking the public to respect his and his family’s privacy, concluding, “Thank you for your compassion, understanding, and continued support.”
Authorities responded Tuesday after multiple reports from viewers raised concerns about Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira Jr., during a livestream on TikTok. According to law enforcement, deputies used crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques before Hilton was transported to a hospital for evaluation. Reports indicate he was admitted under Florida’s Baker Act, which permits an involuntary mental health evaluation when someone is believed to present a danger to themselves or others. Officials have not released additional details regarding his condition.
The incident also renewed scrutiny of TikTok’s handling of graphic content after users questioned how long the livestream remained accessible before being removed. TikTok said its moderation systems detected the content within minutes and later deactivated Hilton’s account for violating its policies on self-harm, though clips continued circulating on other platforms despite removal efforts. The episode has prompted broader discussion among mental health advocates and online safety experts about crisis response and content moderation on social media.
Hilton, 48, has spoken publicly in recent months about surviving severe health complications, including sepsis and a dangerous blood clot, saying those experiences changed his outlook on life. The celebrity gossip pioneer, once known for his provocative online coverage of Hollywood, has remained a polarizing public figure, but several celebrities and public personalities have responded with messages of compassion and support while emphasizing the importance of mental health care.
