Marvel Studios used its Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con to showcase the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, confirming Ryan Gosling will headline a new Ghost Rider film while unveiling major details about Black Panther 3. The announcements were part of a broader presentation led by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige that also included new footage from Avengers: Doomsday and surprise appearances from several Marvel stars.
Gosling joined director Shawn Levy onstage to reveal that he will portray ‘Ghost Rider,’ marking the fiery antihero’s first appearance in the MCU after previous standalone films starring Nicolas Cage. Gosling said the role is “a character I’ve wanted to play for a long time,” while Levy praised the actor and their creative partnership. The film is scheduled to arrive in 2028, though Marvel did not announce a specific release date.
Ryan Coogler then shifted the spotlight to Black Panther 3, confirming the sequel will open Dec. 15, 2028. The filmmaker introduced David Jonsson as the adult son of T’Challa, making him the franchise’s new Black Panther. Letitia Wright and Winston Duke joined Coogler onstage, with Wright expected to reprise her role as Shuri. Coogler also confirmed that Denzel Washington has joined the cast in a role created specifically for him, while Jonsson thanked the creative team and cast, saying, “Thank you to this family that I have the honor and the blessing to join. I don’t want to say too much, because I want to let the screen do the talking.”
Marvel also previewed Avengers: Doomsday, debuting new footage featuring Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor Von Doom and confirming returning cast members including Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby and Simu Liu. Ryan Reynolds made a surprise appearance in costume to tease future Marvel projects, while the studio announced a theatrical re-release of Avengers: Endgame with additional footage designed to connect audiences to the next chapter of the MCU. Together, the Comic-Con reveals represented Marvel’s most significant slate update in years as the studio looks ahead to an ambitious 2028 release calendar.
