A member of Vice President JD Vance’s protective detail has been placed on administrative leave as federal officials conduct an internal inquiry into allegations of unauthorized security leaks. The U.S. Secret Service confirmed Thursday that an agent assigned to the Vice Presidential Protective Division is facing an administrative review that could potentially escalate into a criminal investigation over accusations involving compromised “operational and information security.”

Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi addressed the agency’s response in an official statement regarding the compromised protocols. “While we will not comment on the specifics of this matter, one principle is unequivocal: any conduct that potentially threatens the safety of a protectee will not be tolerated,” Guglielmi said. Agency officials have refrained from publicly identifying the personnel under review while internal affairs investigators examine the breach.

The agency launched its review following a news report published by MS NOW detailing internal logistics and scheduling conflicts within the protective team. That account alleged growing frustration among security personnel due to abrupt, off-the-record travel requests from Vance and his family. The report detailed specific movements, including an aborted trip where a Marine Corps helicopter was slated to transport the vice president’s son to a golf lesson before being grounded by severe weather.

The public disclosure of sensitive travel plans reportedly sparked immediate alarm across federal law enforcement, provoking frustration among White House officials, the FBI, and Secret Service leadership over press reports describing operational movements. Sources indicated that investigators subsequently identified the individual suspected of releasing the security details, resulting in the agent’s prompt removal from protective duties pending the outcome of the probe.
