Authorities are continuing their investigation into a targeted shooting inside a Spirit Halloween store at the Solano Town Center in Fairfield, California, which resulted in the death of a pregnant woman, and injured six other individuals. Emergency responders answered emergency calls around 8:30 p.m. where gunfire erupted inside the store during peak evening shopping hours.
Police identified the victim as 31-year-old Constance Hages, a mother of four whose relatives confirmed she was pregnant at the time of the incident. Authorities said Hages died from her injuries at the scene. Three additional victims—ages 16, 19, and 32—were admitted to local medical centers in critical condition, while a 23-year-old male victim remains in critical but stable condition. Two other male individuals sustained gunshot injuries, received medical treatment at a nearby hospital, and were subsequently discharged.
Witnesses described scenes of panic as shoppers attempted to escape the store following the gunfire. Some people reportedly fled through an employee hallway and forced open gates to reach safety. The shooting also disrupted Halloween weekend activities at the shopping center, which canceled its scheduled Mall-O-Ween trick-or-treating event. The mall remained open, but the affected Spirit Halloween location was expected to remain closed while authorities continued their investigation.
Fairfield police believe the shooting was a targeted incident involving one suspect, although investigators have not publicly identified the intended target or disclosed a possible motive. No arrests had been announced in the latest reports. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and other evidence in an effort to identify the person responsible, with the FBI’s Sacramento office assisting in the investigation.
Police have urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Fairfield Police Department at 707-428-7600 or email 1030mall@fairfield.ca.gov.
