Christina Applegate has revealed that doctors recently determined she does not have multiple sclerosis, overturning the diagnosis she received in 2021. The actress shared the news on her podcast, “MeSsy,” which she co-hosts with fellow actor and MS advocate Jamie-Lynn Sigler, describing the discovery as a deeply unsettling development.

Applegate, 54, said the revised diagnosis has left her struggling to understand what is causing her ongoing health problems. Although the news might seem encouraging, her symptoms have not eased, and she continues to experience significant physical difficulties, including problems with standing and walking. She is now seeking further medical evaluations to determine what is behind her condition.

The revelation comes after years of living with the understanding that she had MS, a disease affecting the central nervous system. Applegate publicly announced her diagnosis in 2021 and subsequently stepped away from acting as her health challenges increasingly affected her daily life. She also became a prominent voice for people living with the disease.

During the podcast discussion, Applegate described the emotional impact of losing a diagnosis that had helped her make sense of her symptoms and connect with a community. Neurologist Marwa Kaisey, who joined the episode, discussed the difficulties of diagnosing MS, which has no single definitive test and can resemble other neurological conditions.

Applegate’s latest disclosure leaves her facing continued symptoms without a confirmed explanation. While the new assessment changes her understanding of her illness, she said the physical struggles that prompted her original diagnosis remain, making the search for answers ongoing.
