Netflix has released the full trailer for “Animals,” a crime thriller starring and directed by Ben Affleck that follows a Los Angeles mayoral candidate whose family is thrown into crisis after his son is kidnapped. Affleck plays the politician opposite Kerry Washington, who portrays his wife, as the couple races to secure a ransom while confronting a dangerous web of deception. The ensemble also includes Adriana Paz, Ray Fisher, Matt Gerald, Luis Gerardo Méndez, Christopher Woodley and others.

Previously released was the dialogue-free teaser, which builds tension through images of the family’s seemingly comfortable life before a phone call signals that something has gone terribly wrong. The footage then shifts to the parents’ increasingly frantic efforts to respond to their son’s disappearance, while Steven Yeun appears as an associate of Affleck’s character and Gillian Anderson is shown in connection with the investigation.

The project was initially developed with Damon attached to play the lead role, but Affleck ultimately took over the part. Legendary cinematographer Robert Elswit shot the film.Affleck co-wrote the screenplay with Connor O. McIntyre and Billy Ray and also produces the film with Matt Damon and Dani Bernfeld through Artists Equity. The company’s latest Netflix collaboration follows “The Rip,” while Affleck and Damon have continued their producing partnership on projects including “The Accountant 2” and “The Kiss of the Spider Woman.”

“Animals” is scheduled to open in select theaters and begin streaming on Netflix on Oct. 9. See the trailer: HERE.
