The Department of Defense on Monday officially disclosed the identities of two U.S. Army air defense soldiers killed during Iranian missile and drone strikes on a military installation in Jordan.
Pentagon officials identified the deceased as Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, who died Friday, and 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, who died Saturday. Both service members were stationed at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in support of regional military operations when the facility came under heavy bombardment.
Military officials reported that the fatalities occurred during a wide-scale aerial assault involving ballistic missiles and uncrewed drones. Four additional American service members were evacuated to a hospital in Jordan for treatment before being discharged, while military personnel continue investigating the scene after discovering “unidentified remains” following reports of a missing service member. Mourning the casualties, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth offered tribute online, stating, “Godspeed, heroes,” and writing that “Their sacrifice only stiffens our resolve.”
The strike underscores escalating security threats across military installations in the Middle East. Military personnel familiar with the facility noted that many base structures consist of lightweight metal containers or temporary shelters that offer minimal defense against heavy munitions. Emphasizing the operational strain on regional forces, one service member speaking on the condition of anonymity remarked, “We’re getting beat up across the board.”
In response to the deadly strike, U.S. forces carried out multiple counter-strikes targeting Iranian missile sites, drone launch hubs, and command nodes. Addressing the retaliatory actions, President Donald Trump noted, “We hit them very hard again tonight,” adding that the offensive was conducted “in honor of” the fallen soldiers. The Pentagon confirmed that these casualties bring the total number of U.S. military deaths in the ongoing conflict to 17.
