President Donald Trump announced Monday that the upcoming July 4th festivities on the National Mall will feature his own political rally. The event coincides with the 250th anniversary of American independence and is part of the administration-backed “Freedom 250” initiative commemorating the semiquincentennial of American independence.

In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote, “We are going to host the most spectacular TRUMP RALLY of them all, a ‘TRIBUTE TO AMERICA,’” describing plans for military bands, aerial displays, patriotic music and what he said would be the largest fireworks show in history. The event is expected to take place between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, with Trump scheduled to deliver keynote remarks.

Organizers with the Freedom 250 initiative anticipate that upwards of one million attendees will gather in the nation’s capital for the holiday. The decision to embed a campaign-style rally into the official commemoration follows a pattern of highly personalized events surrounding the semiquincentennial.

The announcement follows several other high-profile Freedom 250 events, including a UFC card held on the South Lawn of the White House during Trump’s 80th birthday weekend. It also comes after a number of performers withdrew from the Great American State Fair, another anniversary-related event, citing concerns over its close association with the president. Trump subsequently announced plans to personally headline the fair’s opening activities.
